Notwist have been around for 20 years now, have released six studio albums, seven EPs and a documentary DVD. various songs of their repertoire were used in TV series, films and ads in the U.S. as well as Europe and were remixed by the best artists. the group is considered to be one of the most important bands to emerge from Germany. Notwist were founded by the brothers Markus and Michael Acher. their sound has change its face various times; the small hardcore-punk-metal that was formed in Weilheim, Germany in 1989, has completely transformed over the years and became one of the most influencing groups in today’s indie music scene. in 1990 they have released their self titled debut album, which was influenced by the grunge-metal scene. in 1992 they’ve released ‘Nook’ which shifted into the indie-rock genre and in ‘12’, their album from 1995, they’ve started flirting with the electronic sound which characterises them up to this day. their fourth album, ‘Shrink’, which was released in 1998 revealed post-rock and electro-jazz influences. through the single ‘Chemicals’, this album was exposed to a new audience and was critically acclaimed in their home country and the rest of Europe. in 2002 the band was massively acknowledged outside of Europe thanks to their album ‘Neon Golden’ which made famous by the single ‘Pick Up the Phone’. this single has put their name in charts all across the globe. the following singles ‘Pilot’ and ‘Consequence’ made the album, which was made of pop hits alongside acoustic tracks, more popular than ever.
on the same year, in the midst of the hype, ‘On/Off the Record’ was released - a documentary DVD in which the director Joerg Adolf joined the band for 70 days during the recordings on ‘Neon Golden’. in 2005 the band joined the American Hip Hop duo ‘Themselves’ and released the album ‘13 & God’. on the same year, Markus Acher has joined the renowned band ‘Lali Puna’. Notwist sixth and recent album ‘The Devil, You + Me’ was released in 2008. it was recorded incorporation with ‘Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra’, a classic orchestra of 21 members. The album, promoted by the single ‘Where in this World’, was embraced by the audience and proved that Notwist are here to stay.
Notwist, the renowned German electro-rock band, will arrive for a single show on July 16th 2009 at Barby Tel Aviv. Opening Act: The Walking Man (solo project by Girafot's lead singer, Gilad Kahana) |
